A Foodie Lost in Albay: Small Talk Cafe – Foodtripping

A quaint rustic cafe found hidden in one of the alleys of Legazpi that offers Bicol dishes with a twist. From Pasta Pinangat to Red Hot Lava Ice Cream.

Small Talk Cafe is one of those cafes that are highly recommended by locals. What’s interesting about this cafe’s are their fusion of local bicol dishes with italian cuisine. Pizza, Pasta with a touch of bicol what I would say.


We went there on a rainy afternoon after our exploration within Albay. Since we just ate at Let’s Pinangat for late lunch, we just decided to eat some pastas and their famous dessert.

Our first choice was actually the pizza, but the waiter told us that it will take 1 hour for it to be cook. Maybe, they’ll make it from scratch, I concluded. Our order took a while before it arrived.

Pasta Mayon- ravioli stuffed pinangat in fresh tomato sauce with olives.

The food was well presented. We loved the Pasta pinangat as it was very creamy and flavorful. The Pasta Mayon has a distinct italian flavor because they were using pure tomato sauce with tidbits.

The Red Hot Lava

The highlight for me was their dessert- The Red Hot Lava. It has seven huge scoops of ice cream: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry that has been piled like a triangle resembling to that of a volcano with three sweet sauces infused with the hotness of sili: caramel, strawberry and chocolate drizzled over the ice cream that act as the Lava of a volcano. Aside from that, boulders made of pili nuts are scattered at the sides of the towering ice cream and some shaved bukayo (candied coconut). Aside from that, there is a trick, be careful when eating this dessert as there are chopped sili (chillies) that are hidden around the ice cream that will give an extra kick to your dessert.
